THE CONCEPT

The Coronation of the Virgin and Saints painted by Giovanni di Tano Fei was created in 1394. This magnificent Gothic altarpiece was painted for Alderotto Brunelleschi’s chapel in the church of San Leo in Florence. 

The main panels of the altarpiece are Saints Bernard and Sylvester, and Nicholas and Julian flank the central scene where Christ crowns his mother accompanied by angel musicians. The roundels above contain busts of unidentified prophets and of Christ. The scenes in the predella show the apostles Peter and Paul appearing to Constantine in a dream and Pope Sylvester baptizing Constantine, Sylvester raising the bull, and Sylvester binding the mouth of a poisonous dragon and resuscitating magicians killed by the dragon’s breath.

This garment features full artwork details printed in an expressive Renaissance typography on the front. Giovanni di Tano Fei’s gothic altarpiece is highlighted on the back.

I never give reviews. I find it strange to opine to strangers, but I’m compelled to do so after seeing the one-star review of this product. I was freaked out because it was the only review on the Shop app, which I only saw after purchasing it as a birthday present for a friend. “Did I just waste $170 on a slickly advertised gift?” I did not. The print looked exactly like the photos on the site and to quote the recipient, “the quality is excellent.” I’m not sure what unfortunate set of circumstances befell the previous reviewer, but this was one of the best gifts I’ve ever given anyone.
